Doris Lessing, who turns 88 on October 22nd, won the Noble Literature Prize for five decades of epic novels. She is the oldest person to win this prize for literature – not bad for a person who ended formal schooling at the age of 14. Lessing was shopping when the news of her Nobel broke. [...]
